The question you need answered is more useful than the method you have in mind. If a funder has set a reporting deadline, tell us when it is.

What happens next

After you write to us

We reply within one working day, usually with questions about what decision the findings will inform and who will be reading them. Both change the design considerably.

An initial conversation is without charge. It sometimes establishes that the question cannot be answered with the data available, and where that is the case we say so rather than proposing a programme that will disappoint.

Design is quoted separately from fieldwork. You can commission the analysis plan alone and take it elsewhere if you prefer, and some clients do.

Nothing is collected until the plan is agreed. That is the whole of the method and it is not negotiable under deadline pressure.
